AASHTO holds its Geospatial Information Systems for Transportation symposium March 30 to
April 2 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel, 39 Dalton St., hosted with the Massachusetts
Department of Transportation. AASHTO calls it the premier event for geospatial
professionals working in transportation. Programming runs to linear referencing, roadway
inventory, data governance and agency GIS practice, alongside a technology hall and
special interest groups. No 2027 registration page or program is up yet.

## Why it matters for the data layer

The public road network is the base layer everything else references, and GIS-T is where
the people who own it argue about how it should be modeled. Linear referencing systems,
ARNOLD submissions, and how a state chooses to publish its geospatial data
externally are all working sessions here rather than abstractions.

If your feeds ride on a state's road centerline network, this is where its stewards meet.
Roadway data managers, MPO and local geospatial staff and their vendors spend four days on
questions that most transportation conferences treat as plumbing.
