Why it matters for the data layer
Florida is worth watching because of its shape: an unusually large set of mid-sized agencies sitting under a statewide FDOT transit program, in a state that has been an active testbed for fare payment modernization and automated shuttle deployments. What one agency proves out tends to propagate.
FPTA’s annual conference is where the three forces meet. FDOT policy, agency practice and vendor product cycles land in the same rooms, and the executives, district transit staff and community transportation coordinators in attendance are the people who decide what gets specified next year.
