The ITS America Conference & Expo is the largest annual US gathering of the intelligent
transportation community. The 2026 edition ran June 9-12 at Huntington Place in Detroit
under the theme "Empowering Innovation," pairing the conference program with an expo floor
and outdoor technology demonstrations.

## Why it matters for the data layer

This is the closest thing the US roadway-ITS world has to a single annual meeting. It is
where state and local DOTs, the vendors who build the field hardware and software, and
researchers all show up at once, which makes it a good read on where deployment is
actually heading rather than where it is being theorized. ITS America built the 2026
program around a Cybersecurity & Data Zone and a StartUp Zone, and projected more than
