The ITS America Conference & Expo is the largest annual US gathering of the intelligent transportation community. The 2026 edition ran June 9-12 at Huntington Place in Detroit under the theme “Empowering Innovation,” pairing the conference program with an expo floor and outdoor technology demonstrations.
Why it matters for the data layer
This is the closest thing the US roadway-ITS world has to a single annual meeting. It is where state and local DOTs, the vendors who build the field hardware and software, and researchers all show up at once, which makes it a good read on where deployment is actually heading rather than where it is being theorized. ITS America built the 2026 program around a Cybersecurity & Data Zone and a StartUp Zone, and projected more than 100 sessions and close to 200 exhibitors and sponsors.
For the data layer specifically, the material worth tracking is on the operations side: traffic management, connected-vehicle work, and the data that ties signals, tolling, and transit together.
