The Automated Transportation Symposium runs July 27-30 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront,
organized by SAE International and the Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium. It is a
neutral, cross-sector forum on SAE Level 4 and Level 5 automated driving, built around
plenaries, breakout workshops, and poster sessions.

## Why it matters for the data layer

ATS is one of the few venues where AV developers, transportation agencies, and academics
work through automation problems in the same room without a sales floor in the middle. The
focus is the hard part of automation: moving from pilots to scalable, safe deployment, and
the technical, safety, and regulatory questions that gate it.

For the data layer, the relevant threads are the ones about what automated vehicles need
from infrastructure and from each other: map and sensor data, the safety cases built on
operational data, and how agencies verify any of it. It is a working symposium rather than
a trade show, so the value is in the sessions, not the booths.
