2027 SAE Government/Industry Meeting
SAE's annual Washington forum where federal regulators and automotive engineers meet on safety, emissions, energy and vehicle automation policy.
SAE International holds its Government/Industry Meeting January 19-21 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. It is the association’s annual forum for automotive engineers and federal regulators on safety, emissions control, energy and vehicle automation policy, with NHTSA, EPA and FHWA staff typically presenting rulemaking status directly. SAE says the meeting is co-located with the Washington DC auto show and that registered participants get early access to it.
Why it matters for the data layer
If you specify or govern connected and automated vehicle data, this is where the federal side states what it intends to require. FMVSS exemptions for automated vehicles, ADAS rulemaking, and V2X spectrum and deployment policy all get aired here months before they settle into a docket you have to respond to.
Regulators talking in front of the engineers who will implement the rule produces a different conversation than a comment period does. Read it as an early indicator of what lands in vehicle data requirements, not as a product event.
